Fr. Gerard Keane SJ:
He was born on the 2nd November 1926 in Limerick, Ireland. His parents were James Keane and Ellen Walden. He was baptised in November of 1926 in the Church of St. Munchin, Limerick, Ireland. He entered the Jesuit Novitiate on 7th September 1944 in Emo, Ireland. He took his First Vows on 8th September 1946 in Emo, Ireland. He did his juniorate in Rathfarnham, Dublin, Ireland, from 1946 to 1949. He did his philosophical studies in Tullabeg, Ireland, from 1949 to 1952. He was sent to Hong Kong where he learned Cantonese in Cheung Chau from 1952 to 1954. He did his regency in Hong Kong where he taught in Wah Yan College, Kowloon, from 1954 to 1955. He did his theological studies in Milltown Park, Dublin, Ireland, from 1955 to 1959. He was ordained to the priesthood on 31st July 1958 in Dublin, Ireland. He did his Tertianship in Rathfarnham Castle, Ireland, from September 1959 to August 1960. He took his Final Profession on 22nd April 1977.

He was the first Assistant Parish Priest of the Church of St. Ignatius when the Church started on 12th February 1961. He was spiritual director of the first praesidium of the Legion of Mary in the Church of St. Ignatius. From 1969 to 1972, he was editor of the Malaysian Catholic News. For more than 10 years from the late 1960s, he did 45 minutes broadcasts at 6.00 pm on Radio Singapore. From 1976 to 1983 and from 1994 to 2001, he was local superior of the Kingsmead Hall Jesuit Community. From 1976 to 1983 and from 1994 to 2002, he was a member of the parish team of the Church of St. Ignatius. From 1984 to 1992, he was director of Catholic Junior College (CJC) hostel and did chaplaincy work in CJC. In 1993, he took a sabbatical at St. Beuno's in Wales, United Kingdom. From 1994 to 1999, he was a member of Centre of Ignatian Spirituality and Counselling. From 1999 to 2002, he was director of Centre of Ignatian Spirituality and Counselling.

In 2001, he lost his voice to cancer. He wrote script for the annual Christmas play in the parish and occasionally played the part of the Three Kings. He ran a small Bible group that met weekly and wrote message to parishioners in the weekly Sunday parish bulletin. On the 31st July 2008, the Church of St. Ignatius celebrated Fr. Gerard Keane's Golden Jubilee of Priesthood. He had a wonderful gift of friendship and was much loved.

On the 26th November 2018, Monday, after the Kingsmead Hall Jesuit Community Mass at 8.00 pm, members of the community gathered in Fr. Keane's room to pray for him as Local Superior, Fr Agustinus Tanudjaja, SJ, gave him the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick. On 27th November 2018, Tuesday, at 1.40 pm Fr. Keane was transferred to Assisi Hospice as more medical care was needed and he passed away peacefully at 6.35 pm on the same day.
